Simply her mind started to realize that this person has got some necessary traits that she lacks and so it would be better for her to be beside him. So after all love is just thinking that some person is important to you somehow. He may be assertive, may be financially secure, he makes you laugh or he makes you happy. Hatred follows the same rule, suppose you were not an assertive person while there was an arrogant guy who always used to make fun of you in front of others, what will happen in such a situation? Your mind will think that this person causes you pain and so it must keep you away from him/her. But how can this be done? By making you hate him/her and so ensuring that you will avoid him/her as much as you can. So, after all it's your mind which decided first that you should be away from him/her thence triggering a feeling of hatred.
